It’s been a busy year for Famous Dex, and his hard work has paid off as his buzz has gone through the roof. The Chicago rapper releases his new single, “Pick It Up,” which features A$AP Rocky joining him with some hard-hitting bars.
The two spit their rhymes over the upbeat instrumental, produced by Fki, that samples Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Jr.’s classic soul cut “Nothing Can Stop Me.” Dex provides some animated bars for his two verses before the A$AP Mob member comes through with his own rhymes that will keep the listeners on their toes for the potential club banger.
While speaking about the new record, Dex says snagging Rocky for the track was a big deal for him, despite the two having previously worked together.
“‘Pick It Up’ was something very different for me,” says Dex. “Especially getting ASAP [Rocky] on the record is a big, big look for me. It was kind of different. I did it, and it took time. I’m more of a freestyle rapper, and more of a new wave. I’m not like a Jay-Z writer or a Nas, so I just go in there and do my thing. I go off energy.”
Dex has been unveiling tons of new material all year, including his Rich Forever 3 mixtape with Rich The Kid and Jay Critch, but fans are still waiting for his debut album, Dex Meets Dexter. He talks about what fans can expect from the project, revealing that there will be some skits.
“The album, I’m going to give you a little clue. I’m going to have skits going through it, it’s going to be fire,” says Dex. “I’ve been working on it for a year now. I haven’t dropped a project in like a year. I’ve been working, working, working, working, man. I’ve been focused, focused, focused. I want to give my fans what they’ve been waiting on. It’s fire.”
